LSSI, LTNAM, Petroleum Cleanup Program Updates

LSSI Updates

LSSI is providing to be one more value added service for our clients here at HCR. Any site with a priority ranking score of 10 points or less may voluntarily participate in the Low Scored Site Initiative program (LSSI), whether or not the site is eligible for state restoration funding. The great news for business and property owners is that sites that are eligible for state restoration funding may receive payment of pre-approved costs, including 6 months of groundwater monitoring, not to exceed $30,000 for each site. When property owners participate in the LSSI program owners may be able to increase the value of their properties by utilizing free program funding to remove the current environmental cloud on their property. Feel free to contact HCR for more details. The final updates are now available on the FDEP’s website and can be found here:

LTNAM Updates

Long Term Natural Attenuation Monitoring (LTNAM) is referred to as passive remediation. It is a popular approach to risk management in the Petroleum Cleanup Program. LTNAM is cost effective in its approach and often provides clients with a budget friendly solution to environmentally impacted sites. Final updates for LTNAM can be found here:

Priority Score Funding

The DEP has determined that a downward score adjustment for the priority score funding threshold is prudent at this juncture. Therefore, effective January 3, 2011, the score has been adjusted from 56 to 49. The Petroleum Cleanup Preapproval Program spending procedures for fiscal year 2010-2011 dated July 1, 2010 apply. Questions regarding these procedures should be directed to either Charles Williams @ (850) 245-8863 or Mike Ashey @ (850) 245-8821.

Vapor Intrusion

What is Vapor Intrusion?

Vapor intrusion is the migration of vapors from below ground petroleum or chemical spills into overlying buildings, creating a health hazard for building occupants.  The problem is not confined to industrial or petroleum facilities – it extends to commercial and residential buildings which may be a significant distance from the source of contamination.

Concerned residents, industry leaders, and regulators are quickly becoming aware of the risks associated with vapor intrusion.  In many parts of the country, new regulations have sprung up, directing swift action to identify and address the problem, particularly at “sensitive receptor” sites such as daycare centers and schools.

Comprehensive, Cost Effective, and Swift Solutions

HCR has the expertise to help you understand if your facility, building or residence is at risk.  We provide reliable solutions that will allow you to fully comply with recent regulatory changes and keep occupants healthy and safe.

We test for, evaluate and mitigate vapor intrusion – quickly and cost-effectively.  Our scientists and engineers have years of experience conducting vapor intrusion risk assessments and investigations.  If we find a problem, we can design and install immediate response measures and permanent solutions.

HCR’s vapor intrusion services include:

  • Risk assessment and preliminary investigations
  • Indoor air and sub-slab vapor testing
  • Design and installation of residential and commercial mitigation systems
  • Source investigation
  • Design and installation of soil and groundwater remediation solutions

Industrial and Petroleum Facilities

Where required, HCR has designed and installed large scale sub-slab depressurization systems for industrial, petroleum and large commercial facilities to immediately prevent the migration of vapors from the subsurface.  We can quickly identify the source of the problem and devise permanent solutions at even the largest sites.

Commercial, Residential and Brownfield Sites

Spills from gasoline stations or industrial facilities can spread via soil and groundwater beneath neighboring buildings and adjacent homes, with substantial risk of impacting indoor air.   HCR can quickly provide field testing services to identify vapor concentrations, and respond immediately to eliminate potential health or explosion hazards.
